River Indus continued to flow in medium flood at Guddu and Sukkur Reach with downstream flow of 4,16,000 cusecs, sources at Federal Flood Commission told Business Recorder here on Friday. The river was flowing in low flood at Tarbela, Kalabagh, Chashma and Taunsa Reaches and at Kotri barrage where water level was rising at 1800 hours.
The sources added that upstream Guddu Barrage in district Rajanpur standing crops over 3,86,000 acres in 238 villages have been affected by the flood in the river.
In NWFP, River Kabul was in medium flood at Warsak and Nowshera, while River Swat was in high flood at Munda Headworks.
As per Flood Forecasting Division report, River Indus at Guddu-Sukkur Reach and River Kabul at Warsak and Nowshera would continue to remain in medium flood during the next 24 hours whereas Rivers Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi and Sutlej continue to flow normally.
The report added that the FFD was closely monitoring movement and intensity of the prevailing monsoon system with specific reference to its impact on Pakistan's major river system.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has reported fairly widespread moderate intensity rain with isolated heavy falls over Hyderabad and Sukkur Divisions of Sindh during the past 24 hours. Scattered rains of light to moderate intensity have also been reported over Kashmir, north-eastern Punjab and north-eastern Balochistan, north Punjab and central NWFP.
As per forecast, rains of moderate intensity may occur over southern Sindh, upper catchment areas of all the major rivers, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore and Bahawalpur Divisions of the Punjab.
