Accountability to be conducted for relief goods distribution: CM

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah Friday said that the provincial government will conduct an accountability of all funds and relief goods distributed among the rain and flood affected people by the district governments.

"Coordinated efforts should be made and it be ensured that there be no duplication as a detailed accountability of the relief goods and funds so provided and confirmation from recipients etc would be conducted," he said while presiding a meeting in this regarding at CM House.

He said that many of the families who had received Pakistan Card and an amount of Rs 20,000/- have returned to their homes to rebuild the same.

"Gradually normalcy is being restored and distribution of relief goods is being reduced there while the badly affected areas should be provided relief goods as usual," he added.

The meeting discussed in detail the measures taken so far in this regard. It was informed that NDMA was supplying relief goods to affectees in Districts of Shaheed Benazirabad, Badin, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Sanghar and Mirpurkhas, while the PDMA was looking after and supplying relief goods in Thatta, Tando Muhammad Khan Tando Allahyar, and other districts.

It was informed by Chairman NDMA that so far 0.2 million ration bags with food items of 36,000 metric tons have been distributed. The meeting was also informed that in all 88 Talukas, 679 Union Councils and 37810 villages were affected due to rains.

It was further informed that agencies undertaking relief including NDMA, PDMA, Pakistan Red Crescent, Sindh Bank, National Bank of Pakistan, Bait-ul- Mal, Pak Army and other related institutions also supplied items for rain affected people.

The Chief Minister directed that the NDMA should discuss and decide the issue with the Federal Government, while the Sindh Government would coordinate the matter and a follow up meeting will be held on Monday or Tuesday.
