Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said government was spending huge amount on provision of health, education and other basic facilities to the citizens. He added that a comprehensive programme was being implemented in all major cities of the province for improvement of water supply and sanitation system as well as infrastructure development. He was addressing members of national and provincial assemblies of Faisalabad here on Friday.
Federal Minister for Textile Mushtaq Cheema, Federal Minister for Law Wasi Zafar, Provincial Minister for Law and Local Government Muhammad Basharat Raja and Provincial Minister for Communication & Works Ch Zaheer-ud-Din were also present.
The Chief Minister said project for construction of Jhal Khanowana overhead bridge and many link roads in Faisalabad, at a cost of Rs 340 million, has been completed which left positive impacts on the economic activities and living standard of the people of the area.
He said an institute of cardiology would be constructed at a cost of Rs one billion in Faisalabad for the provision of modern health facilities to the cardiac patients. He said government was extending all out encouragement to private sector for rapid industrialisation in the province as private sector could play key role in alleviating poverty and elimination of unemployment.
He said a major scheme for improvement of water supply system in Faisalabad has been initiated at a cost of about Rs 2.5 billion while the project for construction of a dual road from Faisalabad to Jarranwala costing Rs 300 million was in the final stage of completion.
Similarly, he said construction of Sumandri Road from Faisalabad City to by-pass has been completed at a cost of about Rs 8o million. He said a new industrial estate over an area of 3,000 acres was being set up in Faisalabad, which would result in generation of a large number of employment opportunities.
Moreover, while talking to German Ambassador in Pakistan Christopher Brumer, Punjab Chief Minister said local and foreign investment in social sector in Punjab has increased and reforms of fundamental nature were being introduced in education, health, housing and other sectors.
The CM apprised the Ambassador that parliamentary system had sound footings in the country and PML-Q government was executing a number of projects for the welfare of masses. The German Ambassador said Pakistan has played an important role for maintaining international peace.
