Former member of the National Assembly and Jamaat-i-Islami Karachi Naib Amir Aslam Mujahid was kidnapped and later shot dead, police and sources said. His bullet-riddled body was later recovered near the Government Degree College, Korangi, in the jurisdiction of Korangi Industrial Area police station on Monday evening. Police said his body bore four bullet marks. A source in the JI said he was forced to disembark from his car by two armed men while returning from the funeral of a party worker who was killed on Sunday.
Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui expressed his heartfelt grief and condolence over the tragic murder of the JI leader. The killers would be arrested at all cost, he added.
He said a committee, headed by DIG Investigation Manzoor Mughal, has been formed to catch the killers.
The home minister announced a reward of Rs 1 million for those identifying the killers and announced a judicial inquiry into the matter.
He appealed to people that if anyone has any information in this regard, it should be immediately communicated to officials of law-enforcing agencies and has assured that names of such persons would be kept secret.
AGENCIES ADD: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) on Monday alleged that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was involved in the murder of Muhammad Aslam Mujahid.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement has termed the killing of JI Naib Amir and Korangi Association of Trade and Industry KATI vice-chairman Aslam Mujahid a conspiracy against the political system, upcoming local bodies' poll and attempt to destroy peace and tranquillity of Sindh and the city.
Addressing a hurriedly called press conference here at Karachi Press Club Monday evening, the parliamentary leader of MQM in National Assembly, Farooq Sattar, strongly condemned the assassination of Aslam Mujahid and expressed his grief and sorrows over the incident and condoled with the bereaved family on behalf of the MQM.
