Two fast patrol boats were inducted into Pakistan Cooast Guards fleet on Saturday PCG Director General Chaudhry Pervez Akhtar while speaking at induction ceremony at the harbour said that this induction would enable the Coast Guards to act fast at the sea, increasing their working capacity against smugglers and anti-social elements.
With the induction of these boats which can move at a speed of over 70-km per hour, Chaudhry Akhtar said, "We would have superiority over untoward elements and this fact would serve as a psychological barrier. These boats would play a significant role in checking smuggling," he added.
The existing conditions prove that the PCG was continuously heading towards better performance, Chaudhry Akhtar said, adding he considers himself fortunate for having new fast patrol boats into the existing fleet.
The force depends on four basic factors; manpower, posts at the coast, communication system and above all and the most important mobility on land, air and at sea, Chaudhry Akhtar said.
He said the force was lacking the required capacity in sea operation that affected its performance, although it did achieve successes against smugglers and anti-social elements. The induction of boats would help in filling this gap to some extent, the PCG DG added.
