An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Karachi on Wednesday convicted and sentenced Mohajir Qaumi Movement Haqiqi (MQM-H) General Secretary Amir Khan, to 10-year rigorous imprisonment in double murder case. "The court sentenced Amir Khan to 10-year RI on charge of conspiring murder, and awarded life-term to three MQM (H) activists, Mohammad Tariq, absconding Mohammad Raees and Nazim with a fine of Rs 200,000 each in said case," said one defence counsel of accused.
The MQM(H) general secretary and its activists were prosecuted on charge of killing two Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) activists on June 23, 2003.
The ATC headed by Judge Feroz Mehmood Bhatti, who is conducting trial at the Central Jail, Karachi, after hearing the closing arguments of both side counsels had reserved the judgement on December 3, which was announced on Wednesday.
MQM(H) leader Shamsher Khan, who is also member of defence team of Amir Khan, said: "It was pre-thought conviction. The prosecution could not be able to prove its case against Amir Khan, and the trial court's order will be challenged in the high court."
The prosecution case was that an FIR was lodged with the Landhi police station, Karachi, on July 2 in which alleged that Amir Khan along with others killed two Muttahida's activists, Muhammad Naeem and Anam Uzair in by-elections of NA-255, Karachi.
