Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Shahid Karimullah on Monday inaugurated a newly built 80-bed officers ward here at Pakistan Navy Hospital PNS Shifa.
Speaking on the occasion Admiral Shahid said that PNS Shifa had always been a highly reputed hospital in Karachi and playing an active role in health care with a degree of professional competence and ethical excellence.
He expressed his confidence that this newly constructed ward would ease a lot of pressure from the hospital and would be utilised in the best interest of the defendants. He lauded the efforts of all those involved in the project.
The Naval Chief said that it was a matter of pride and satisfaction that PNS Shifa was not only providing medical care to naval personnel but also extending health facilities to the personnel of Army, Air Force, Para military forces and civilians at Karachi and Sindh.
He urged to further enhance the health care facilities at the hospital and announced that a cardiac care institute affiliated with AFIC Rawalpindi be developed at Karachi in close vicinity of PNS Shifa.
In his welcome address Commander PNS Shifa Surgeon Commodore Sefvan Majid Janjua gave an overview of the performance and progress of the hospital.
He informed that the hospital started only as a care unit but during the last 51 years it had gained the repute of one of the finest medical institutions in the country.
He informed that the infrastructure of the ward was completed on March 15 with a cost of Rs18.27 million. The ward is centrally air-conditioned and was provided with a patients bed lift.
Other features of the ward included a prayer room, TV lounges and seven nursing stations for efficient and prompt response with intercom facility provided to each bed, the Commandant informed.
Later, Chief of the Naval Staff formally inaugurated the ward by unveiling the plaque.
The ceremony was attended among others by Commander Pakistan Fleet, Vice Admiral Mohammad Haroon, Commander Karachi, Rear Admiral Asad Qureshi and senior officers from navy and sister organisations.
