imageLAHORE: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayyaz Sadiq affirmed on Wednesday that the opposition's sit-ins would prove nothing but harming development and economic growth in the country.

"The PTI won't succeed in making any dent to the government and the outcome of the proposed sit-in will face the same fate it met in the past," he stated.

Talking to the media outside the Punjab Assembly, he said that everyone had the right to protest and the government could not stop them from taking to the streets. But, he recalled, the last sit-in had caused loss of billions of rupees to the national exchequer and cancellation of Chinese president's visit to Pakistan. He said that decisions would always be made on the table and not on roads.

The speaker said that the first two meetings on the terms of reference (ToRs) were held in good atmosphere; however, later on the matter could not be sorted out. He said dialogue was the only solution to all issues. In politics, he added, politicians always keep their doors open to dialogue.

Ayyaz Sadiq said that all politicians knew each other and they must seek an amicable way out of the issue.

Answering a query, the speaker said that the Pakistan Muslim League-N was fully united under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.

Asked to comment on Awami Muslim League leader Sheikh Rashid Ahmed's statement, the NA speaker said that all his predictions in the past have proved wrong and it would be better if he carries a parrot for right predictions.
