The production growth of 39 large scale industrial items has been recorded at 10.70 percent during the first 10 months of the current fiscal year as compared to the same period last year.
Major industrial items showing increasing trend during July-April 2003-04 are sugar, cotton cloth (mill sector), jute goods, cement, jeeps, cars, motorcycles, tractors, motor tyres, fertiliser and caustic soda.
Out of total 39 items, the production growth of 34 items has increased while five items have decreased due to various reasons, official sources said.
The production of sugar increased during July 2003 to April 2004 by 9.11 percent, cigarettes by 10.01 percent, cotton yarn 1.90 percent, cotton cloth 15.47 percent, cotton cloth (non-mill sector) 6.89 percent, jute goods 14.88 percent, paper and board 7.60 percent, soda ash 0.46 percent, caustic soda 15.04 percent, fertiliser 8.11 percent, glass sheet 11.85 percent cement 15.43 percent, bicycles 2.15 percent, motor tyres 20.02 percent, coke (steel) 1.96 percent, iron and steel products 1.55 percent, cars and jeeps 62.12 percent.
According to latest official figures, the overall production of buses is registered 2.79 percent low. The production of motor tubes was also low by 8.64 percent due to less demand from the market as production of tubes is based on the demand received from the market. The production of chipboard was also decreased during the same period by 3.46 percent.
Official sources said the increase in the growth in the industrial sector is a result of the positive economic policies of the government and heavy foreign investment coming into Pakistan which shows investors confidence as Pakistan is viable and safest for investment.
