COMMENTS CALLED IN PLEA AGAINST BY-POLLS: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has called for report and comments from Home Secretary Punjab on May 04, in a petition filed by Bashir Ahmed, praying to the court to stop holding of by-elections on the seat of former MNA, Azam Tariq, who was assassinated.
The petitioner, who is also voter of the said constituency contended that after the murder of Azam Tariq the law and order situation in the constituency was not suitable for holding polls.
He prayed to the court to direct the respondent election commissioner not to hold bye-elections in the said constituency till the restoration of law and order in the area.
The court, after hearing the petitioner's counsel at length, called for report from Home Secretary Punjab and rose till the next date of hearing.
