The Executive Committee of South Asian Sports Federation (SASF) has changed its name and the sports body would now be named as South Asian Olympic Council (SAOC) from January 1st next year.
The Executive Committee also renamed the South Asian Federation (SAF) games and next edition of the games would be called 10th South Asian games instead of SAF games.
These decisions were taken during an extra ordinary meeting held here on Thursday under the chairmanship of President Pakistan Olympic Association and chairman organising committee 9th SAF games Lieutenant General Syed Arif Hasan at the Pakistan Sports Complex.
The meeting also decided to add two more games in the South Asian sporting extravaganza and 10th South Asian games will have a total of 19 disciplines, including the two optional games that the host Sri Lanka would opt to include in the event using its right to suggest the items as host country.
The two new games for the South Asian event are judo and archery.
The current edition of games included 15 disciplines Athletics, Football, Volleyball, Wrestling, Shooting, Swimming, Weightlifting, Badminton, Table Tennis, Boxing, Karate, Taekwando, Kabadi and two optional events by host Pakistan (Rowing and Squash).
The POA President Arif Hasan told journalists after the meeting that hockey and basketball were also discussed during the meeting as regular events of games. However the committee has yet not decided on their inclusion.
