At a reception given by Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister for Information and Archive Salahuddin Haider at a local hotel on Wednesday speakers paid glowing tributes to Mehtab Akber Rashdi on her getting Pride of Performance in recognition of her contribution to public service, art and culture.
The speakers had all praise for her intellectual qualities, hard work and dedication to her responsibilities.
They said that Rashdi in the capacity of a teacher, director general Environmental Protection Agency, provincial secretary education, culture and director general Sindh Ombudsman had been extremely successful and in many cases performed better than her male counterparts.
They said that the recognition of work of a public servant for Pride of Performance was a singular act of the government, which should not be allowed to go unnoticed.
They said that in addition to congratulating Rashdi, it would be appropriate to acknowledge that the government recognised services of a public servant in the domain hitherto considered exclusively private.
Rashdi in her brief remarks said that it had always been teamwork that had brought her success wherever she worked.
She said Haider had established a good tradition of acknowledging work done by his juniors.
She said it was for the first time, as far as her memory worked, a minister had acknowledged good work done by a member of his staff. "It is a good beginning and should be followed by other so that the good tradition set here is maintained."
Those who spoke on the occasion besides Salahuddin Haider and the chief guest included Kazi Asad Abid, Huma Ahmed and Mahmudul Aziz. The representatives of print and electronic media and officials of the Sindh Information Department largely attended the reception.
UPP ADDS: Mahmudul Aziz, Vice President of the CPNE, speaking on the occasion said that he had come to recognise the scholarship and deep understanding of administrative affairs in Mrs Mehtab Akber Rashdi from the day he heard from her more than six years ago a scholastic lecture on the Education Department of Sindh which she was heading.
In the Information Department she had brought her skill and knowledge to good work and with Salahuddin Haider as the Adviser on Information, the pressmen and the newspaper in Sindh felt more at ease and knew that they could approach them for the solution of any problem without hesitation.
This reflected that confidence which should mark Government-press relations here.
He said that Mehtab Akber Rashdi belonged to an illustrious family in Sindh and her husband Akber Rashdi added to that image since he also belonged to a family well-known and distinguished in Sindh specially Pir Ali Mohammed Rashdi, Akber Rashdi's father, who was a man of great stature in Sindh.
He said that Mehtab Rashdi, therefore, deserved the award and by her meriting the award she had brought joy to the working women of Pakistan as also to her colleagues in Government service.
