Punjab Minister for Education, Mian Imran Masood has said that an amount of Rs 500 million has been sanctioned for the endowment fund that was created on special directives of the Punjab Chief Minister for the needy, but intelligent students so as enable them to continue their education on the government's expenses.
While addressing the annual convocation of Government MAO College here on Wednesday, he said that the evening classes in all the colleges would be a permanent feature in all the colleges so that every student can get inexpensive education at government institutions.
The higher education is the top most priority of the present government and a number of steps have been taken to promote college education in the province, he added.
Apart from Lahore, new universities have been established at other divisional headquarters so that student of far-flung areas can also be benefited. "Education standard at most of our educational institutions is not satisfactory, but it could be improved by concerted efforts," the Minister stated. New policies are being framed to hire capable teachers from public sector and salary structure is also being upgraded in this regard, he added.
The Minister announced a grant of Rs 5 million for the construction of a boundary wall and repair of the college hall.
He also appreciated the college's performance and assured all co-operation by the government to the institutions working in the right direction.
Earlier, the principal of the collage presented the annual report and said that students have shown excellent results in curricular and co-curricular activities.
Later, the Minister distributed degrees and prizes among the students.
