All Pakistan Federation of Trade Union (APFTU) while severely criticising the government for harassing the nuclear scientists of the country, asked the decision-makers to stop persecuting them, as without their contributions, Pakistan would not have gained nuclear deterrence.
In a meeting held here on Wednesday, APFTU General Secretary Khurshid Ahmed Khan alleged that the government of Pakistan has bowed down to US pressure, which has flouted every international law and holds the biggest nuclear arsenal in the world.
He said it is time that the government should stand up to international pressure and defend not only its nuclear capability, but also protect those who have helped in building it, adding the nuclear scientists were the national asset, and they and their families should be treated like one.
He said India have honoured the father of their nuclear programme, and elected him the country's president, while Pakistan humiliating those, who have brought the nation at par with India in nuclear deterrence. Khurshid Ahmed Khan asked the government to focus its attention towards the real issues like unemployment, price-hike and the unprecedented increase in the rates of petroleum products.
The meeting was attended by representatives from both the private and the public sector trade unions, including Haji Amin, Agha Badr-ul-Islam, Aslam Firdosi, Muhammad Afzal, Muhammad Akbar, and Mian Abdul Hameed.
