India releases Rahat Ali Khan

KARACHI: Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, the nephew of the late qawali maestro Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, has been released by Indian authorities Aaj TV reported on Monday.

However, the Indian media reported that officials have seized his passport and he will appear before the Indian Department of Revenue Intelligence on February 17.

His two other associates have also been released.

Rahat and his two associates were taken into "protective custody" by Indian authorities for carrying “undeclared” foreign currency.

By Indian law, one cannot bring more than $5000 into India.
