FRANKFURT: German stocks opened 1.8 percent higher on Friday, continuing to rise on the news that the world's most powerful central banks offered to help banks squeezed by the eurozone debt crisis.
The blue-chip DAX 30 index opened at 5,607.51 points, a gain of 99.27 points or 1.8 percent from the closing level of Thursday.
EU finance ministers were meeting in Wroclaw, Poland, Friday for talks on a new rescue package for debt-wracked Greece that was agreed by eurozone leaders in July but has yet to be implemented.
