imageLAHORE: Minister of State and Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Marvi Memon has said that BISP would collaborate with Cancer Care Hospital & Research Centre Foundation (CCHRCF) to provide free breast cancer screening facility to women-beneficiaries over 40-years of age.

Talking to media after attending a briefing at project office of the Cancer Care Hospital on Monday, she said that initially the facility would be started at seven BISP centres across the country but later it would be extended to other areas of the country.

She said that mammography machines were being mounted on mobile vans which would visit BISP centres from April 2016 and provide free screening facility.

Chairperson BISP said that she was impressed with the initiative of Cancer Care Hospital for early detection of breast cancer. She assured complete support for the cause,adding that it would be major achievement of BISP to serve poorest people in this regard.

Earlier, while addressing the gathering Marvi Memon said that BISP has 450 tehsil offices in various parts of the country and the mammography mobile units could visit these centres to enable programme beneficiaries to avail the facility.

Chairman Cancer Care Hospital Prof Dr Shaharyar apprised Marvi Memon about aims and scope of the hospital.

He said that every year 185000 new cancer patients were being listed whereas only 29000 patients received treatment at hospitals.Under such conditions,more cancer hospital were needed to deal with this disease in the country, he added.

He said that all facilities would be provided at the hospital for treatment of cancer and it would be free of cost.

He highlighted that three mammography machines for breast cancer screening have been procured for the hospital with the co-operation of MJF Lions Club,whereas more machines would also be imported soon.
