KARACHI: Karachi Electric Supply Company has urged upon the general public to strictly refrain from using illegal connections, as reports are being received that unsafe “kunda” wires had caused electrocution of innocent citizens after falling into rainwater pools.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, the KESC said such tragic incidents happened because the unyielding power thieves did not stop in spite of repeated and clear instructions by the utility regarding the danger involved.
While referring to the public backlash against KESC employees over such incidents, the utility asked media, public representatives and other opinion makers to explain to citizens that not KESC but the power thieves had been responsible for the electrocution of innocent people.
KESC said that in some cases maintenance teams could not reach the locations to take safety measures due to negative reaction of local residents. These people instead needed to understand the actual cause and persuade the electricity thieves against committing this evil.
After the belated monsoon’s heavy downpour continued for second day in the Metropolis, KESC emphasized the need to follow maximum safety measures in order to save innocent lives. People needed to keep away from electric poles, broken or fallen wires, wet home appliances, equipment and gadgets during rains.
KESC said that electricity current could leak into the water pools through live broken wires, or to exterior of electrical and electronic goods and equipment, and could be fatal.
KESC asked the citizens to immediately inform 118 call centre or report to nearest utility office in case of any emergency. KESC also advised them to maintain their calm and patience and allow the repair and maintenance teams to perform their duties in peace.
