MADRID: Madrid stock prices rose 1.26 percent in opening trade Monday, led by bank shares, after the European Central Bank signalled it would buy hard-hit Spanish and Italian bonds.
The IBEX-35 index of leading shares climbed 1.26 percent to 8,780.2 points in the first three minutes of trade. Leading bank Santander's shares shot up 5.31 percent to 6.786 euros.
