TOKYO: Japan's industrial output rose 6.2 percent in May, revised government data showed on Wednesday, suggesting the economy is on course for a rapid recovery following the massive earthquake in March.
The figure compared with an initial reading of a 5.7 percent rise, and was the second-biggest increase on record after a 7.9 percent increase in March 1953, the data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry showed. In April, industrial production rose 1.6 percent.
The capacity utilisation index rose 12.8 percent in May from a month earlier to 82.1.
