imageMatt Damon is reportedly in talks with Universal to return as Jason Bourne for the upcoming ‘The Bourne’ franchise.

Director Paul Greengrass said there wasn’t really anyone else for ‘Jason Bourne’ to go in the franchise, hence the Jeremy Renner spinoff ‘The Bourne Legacy’. But it looks like Greengrass and star Matt Damon have come up with an idea to put ‘Jason Bourne’ back into action, media reported.

According to media reports, Universal has reached a deal for Greengrass to direct a new ‘Bourne’ film with Matt Damon reprising the role of ‘Jason Bourne’ for a fourth time. The film will take the July 16, 2016 slot that was being held for an ‘untitled Bourne film’ which was previously assumed to be marked for the next installment in the ‘The Bourne Legacy’ spinoff series starring Jeremy Renner.

Reportedly, the film would take the summer 2016 release date that was already in place for ‘The Bourne Legacy’ sequel, which was set to be directed by Justin Lin and star Jeremy Renner. As for the Renner/Lin spinoff film, that film is still in development but will be released after the new Damon film. Universal is to expand this franchise into a larger beast, eventually crossing over the characters and story lines.
