AJK EC refutes rigging charges

Published June 29, 2011 Updated June 29, 2011 05:48am

MIRPUR: The Azad Jammu & Kashmir Election Commission on Wednesday categorically refuted the rigging allegations in June 26, AJK Legislative Assembly elections framed by certain defeated candidates and political parties.

A spokesman of the AJK Elections Commission said in Muzaffarabad that the primary condition for the voters to produce the computerized National Identity Card before casting vote was implemented strictly in all constituencies during the polls.

"No incident of casting fake vote or any unlawful use of influence upon the polling staff was reported in any of the constituency," the spokesman said.

The spokesman said the AJK Election Commission issued instant orders for suspending or postponing polling only in that polling station and constituency from where the concerned Returning Officer reported and recommended for the same.

The spokesman said solid steps were taken to discourage all sorts of rigging and any other irregularity in the elections.

To achieve this task, the Chief Election Commissioner assigned all of his (CEC) powers to the District Returning Officers and Returning Officers on the polling day in all electoral constituencies to ensure holding of free, fair and transparent elections, he added.

The spokesman said like AJK, the voters belonging to Pakistan-based refugees of Jammu & Kashmir valley enthusiastically participated in the whole elections process.

This, he added, was the ample proof of complete faith and trust of the people in the AJK Election Commission.
