Pak, Argentine agree to enhance cooperation in S&T field

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan, Argentine on Thursday agreed to enhance cooperation in the field of Science and Technology and decided to deliberate on fresh proposals from both sides to agree upon a programme of Cooperation.
Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Pir Aftab Hussain Shah Jilani has said that the sector of Science and Technology is an engine of the economy of the country.
Present democratic government is fully determined to pay due attention to this sector for boosting economy of the country, he added.
While talking to the Ambassador of Republic of Argentina to pakistan, Rodolfo J. Mortin Saravia who met him here on Thursday.
They discussed matters pertaining to mutual interest with special reference to the sector of science and Technology. Federal Secretary, Irfan Nadeem and Joint Secretary of the ministry, Khalid Sidiq were also present on this occasion.
The Minister informed the envoy that the Scientific and Technological Cooperation between Pakistan and Argentina was being pursed under the framework of bilateral Agreement, signed on 1983 between the two countries, to accrue mutual benefits through exchanges of expertise, research and strengthening the economic cooperation between the two countries.
They also reviewed the Joint Committee's proposals in the fields of Agro-Biotechnology, Ocean Research, Solar Energy, Electronics natural Products, Clean Technology, Material Science and S & T infrastructure.
The Ambassador invited the minister to visit Argentina with a delegation to participate in the Scientific and Technological activities in Argentine to get benefits of the Technical expertise of his country.
The Minister agreed with the envoy's proposal and said that he would lead a high level delegation to visit Argentine after taking necessary permission of the authority.
