WASHINGTON: Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Asad Qaiser has said a series of legislations enacted by the current house have paved the way for far-reaching reforms to improve governance in the province.
Speaking to a gathering of Pakistani-Americans, Qaiser referred to legislative steps including the right to information and the local government acts and stressed that these would lead to transparency in governance and empowerment of local government officials.
The provincial government is pursuing the development agenda revolving around security, jobs creation and improvement in education.
He said the provincial government is not interfering in any way in the appointment or postings of senior police officers and is also working to raise a professionally trained Rapid Response Force to meet security challenges. So far, he said, 2000 personnel have been recruited in the force that would be a 7000-member strong outfit.
In the field of education, he said, the government is in the process of recruiting teachers to overcome shortage of academic staff in schools and colleges.
Qaiser, a longtime PTI leader, also informed the gathering that the provincial government is establishing an industrial estate and facilitating exploration of gas reserves to supply inexpensive power for economic activity.
KP Minister for Higher Education Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani said the provincial government would establish a knowledge city as part of efforts to prepare highly educated and well-trained experts to speed up the pace of development process.
