SIALKOT: Hundreds of poultry dealers took out a rally during the light rainy and cloudy weather in Sialkot to protest the proposed imposition of General Sales Tax (GST) on poultry for the fiscal year 2011-2012.
The rally began from Kutchery Chowk and ended at the Allama Iqbal Chowk.
The rally participants were also holding agitational banners and placards chanting anti-government slogans.
Later, talking to the media, some leading poultry dealers including Hafiz Sajjad, Imran Akhtar Thakur and Mazhar Hussain said that the price of chicken meat, eggs and poultry feed would also be increased after the imposition of GST on the sector.
They termed the proposed imposition of GST as a big conspiracy against the country's poultry industry, saying that after beef and mutton now chicken meat and eggs would also be out of reach of the common man, as people were depending upon poultry for their protein requirements.
They urged the government not to impose the proposed GST on poultry in the larger national interest.
