PARIS: France's is preparing for a severe drought this summer which could curb nuclear power production from mid-July in plants located in the southwest, utility and local authorities said.
"EDF remains vigilant and is preparing to enter the summer," an EDF spokeswoman told Reuters on Wednesday.
"France is undergoing an exceptional drought which has led EDF to reinforce surveillance in particular of its nuclear, thermal and hydropower plants," the spokeswoman added.
Local authorities from the south-western Vienne region which has been particularly severely hit by the drought, said in a statement the 2,900 mega-watt Civaux nuclear plant could continue operating until mid-July in the absence of rainfall.
