Sri Lanka detains US men over carry-on weapon

COLOMBO: Sri Lanka's police detained two American men after a weapon was found in their carry-on luggage at the island's only international airport, a spokesman said Thursday.

"The firearm, similar to a pistol, showed up in the x-ray machine before the pair boarded a flight on Wednesday night," police spokesman Prishantha Jayakody said.

He did not identify the two US nationals, but said they were handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department. There was no immediate comment from the US embassy in Colombo.
