LAHORE: Pakistan Muttehida Kissan Mahaz (PMKM) chief and Convener Pakistan Water and Power Action Committee, Ayub Khan Mayo has said India is bent upon to bankrupt our agriculture and industrial sectors by violating the Indus Basin Treaty.
Addressing a press conference here Thursday, he urged the government to forcefully and judiciously take up the water issue with India to save people from starvation and poverty.
He said people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir are concerned about control of water through Wullar barrage which may stop power pumps, destroy drip irrigation, uplift irrigation system set up for tourism and domestic purpose there but 600,000 people woul also lose their source of earning.
He said the Neelum-Jhelum power project would also be affected adding the control of river Jhelum by India would also ultimately harm Mangla dam. He said that PMKM would launch a protest againt India for violating Indus Basin Treaty from June 15 from AJK to Wagha, Wagha to Bedian, Ganda Sighwala to Head Sulemanki and on Monabao Border.
He said PMKM would continue its movement to compel India to abide by 1960 Indus Basin Treaty.
