LSM grows 6.75 percent in March

LSMISLAMABAD: The Large Scale Manufacturing (LSM) grew by 6.75 percent during the month of March this year as compared to the corresponding month period of last year, Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) reported.

The data compiled by the Ministry of Industries and Production of all major industries showed a positive growth of 17.01 percent during March 2011 while the Oil Companies Advisory Committee (OCAC) monitored products showed nominal increase of 0.39 percent.

The data of 54 items collected by the provincial bureaus of statistics, however showed negative growth of 7.52 percent during the month under review.

The overall production of LSM during July-March (2010-11) registered growth of 1.71 percent over the corresponding period of the last year.

During the period under review, OCAC monitored products showed a negative growth of 4.19 percent, according to provisional figures released by FBS.

The MoIP data showed positive growth of 2.78 percent during the time under review while the data of 54 items collected by Provincial Bureaus of Statistics also showed positive growth of 0.78 percent.

The only petroleum products that contributed in positive growth of the LSM production during these first 9 months of current fiscal year included lubricating oil and solvent Neptha, production of which grew by 4.74 percent and 14.6 percent respectively.

The MoIP monitored products that showed positive growth included sugar (26.4%), cotton yarn (1.9%), cotton cloth (0.32%), jeeps and cars (16.14%), Light Commercial Vehicles (23.34%) and motorcycles (2.78%).

Other products that showed positive growth included vegetable ghee (2.94%),cooking oil (9.6%), tea blended (4%),wheat and grain milling (7%), upper leather (8.92%), sole leather (86.16%), footwear (21%), power looms (70.8%), switch gears (21.5%) and television sets (28%).
