 ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Tuesday remarked that they might be inviting Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani to witness the proceedings on Presidential Reference seeking Supreme Court opinion on re-opening of late Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto's trial.

Heading an eleven-member bench, he made these remarks at the conclusion of judicial proceedings on the issue.

He told Dr Babar Awan, counsel for referring authority, that they would always welcome if the Prime Minister wanted to attend the Court.

Dr Babar Awan apprised that incidently, yesterday (Monday), he talked to the Prime Minister on telephone and he asked him if he could accompany him to the Supreme Court.

The Chief Justice further said that the parliament was legislating and functional and they appreciated it.

He said that all institutions were functional under a democratic dispensation.

Earlier, Tariq Mahmood, an amicus curiae, appeared and said that according to his perception miscarriage of justice was done and they had to correct it in accordance with law and Constitution.

He said that in South Africa a truth finding commission was founded over such cases besides, the Indian Courts had reversed their judgements.

He said that the PPP led government which had been in power for the last three years, should have legislated over the issue.
