KARACHI: Extended power outages have caused hundreds of industrial units in eight industrial zones of Karachi to close down rendering thousands of labourers jobless Aaj News reported on Tuesday.
Prolonged electricity outages for the last few years has badly affected the economy of Karachi. The national economy of the country depends on the city and that is why power outages are damaging the economy of the entire country as well.
The 10 to 18 hours unannounced and prolonged daily power outages are creating a lot of problems for the city dwellers and have become a nightmare for the locals.
Certain quarters feel that negligence by the KESC is the cause behind the menace of power outages.
According to the doctors of government and private hospitals there have been cases of various illnesses and ailments caused by hot weather due to power outages.
However, the KESC is still dispatching heavy bills to consumers while it was carrying out 10 to 18 hours of power outages on a daily basis.
