CHICAGO: Wheat futures were called 1 to 2 cents per bushel higher at the Chicago Board of Trade on Friday, in line with gains made during the overnight Globex session, on a small short-covering bounce following three straight days of declines.
Traders also said light deliveries against the May contract on the first notice day were supporting prices.
Deliveries on May 460 contracts, within estimates of zero to 1,000.
European wheat futures edged lower on Friday, extending losses from the previous session on continued strength in the euro and forecasts for some rain in dry parts of the U.S. and Europe.
Recent rainfall may help improve conditions of the U.S. Plains hard red winter wheat crop but more rain is needed, especially in the far southwest Plains including Texas, Oklahoma and southwest Kansas.
Light showers late this week in portions of Germany, France and England seen boosting crop prospects but more rain is needed.
Dry weather remains a problem in North China Plain while wet weather delays spring wheat seedings in the U.S. Northern Plains.
Private exporters have made large sales of new crop wheat form Pakistan in the past week totaling 200,000 to 220,000 tonnes, traders said on Friday.
