ISLAMABAD: Following the introduction of computerized voting system in the country around 37 million bogus votes would be removed from the list of Election Commission, Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah informed the National Assembly on Thursday.
The Election Law (Amendment) Bill-2011 which was recently approved by Lower and Upper Houses of the Parliament would be sent to the President on Thursday (April 28) for his signature to make it an Act of the Parliament, Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi informed and said that the upcoming general elections would be held in 2013.
During the Question-Hour session, the Minister for Religious Affairs termed the passage of the bill historic success of the Parliament and said it would help completely eliminate the chances of election rigging and bogus votes.
The upcoming government would have real mandate of the people as there would be no bogus vote in next general elections after computerization of the voter list, he added.
He said the computerized list would contain picture, name, identity card number and thumb impression of each voter, while the formula of One-man, One-vote would be applied for the upcoming general elections due in 2013.
Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Moula Bakhsh Chandio informed the House that the Election Commission was preparing computerized Electoral Rolls in collaboration with National Database and Registration Authority (NDRA) for the forthcoming general elections as well as local government polls.
He said the electoral rolls, containing accurate date of each voter, would be published by the end of this year, adding that it would also help eliminate duplication and casting of bogus votes.
Chandio said that the voters list was being prepared according to the new census blocks adopted by the Census Organization during the house-to-house counting.
The electoral rolls will be according to the standards set by the national and international community for conduct of free and fair elections, he claimed.
