People hail reduction in Railways fares

Published Updated

imageISLAMABAD: A cross section of society has welcomed Pakistan Railways decision to cut its fare by 33 percent saying the move would encourage people to frequently use this mode of travel.

Pakistan Railways has announced a substantive reduction of 33 per cent in rail fares on the directives of Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique and the new rates will be applicable from July 11.

A passenger at Rawalpindi railway station Malik Tanveer who was about to travel to Karachi while talking to this agency said, "move of the Railways Minister would be helpful in increasing number of passengers as people love to travel on trains."

However, he said, steps are also required from the Minister and management of Railways to make sure that trains arrive on time.

Another passenger Kasim Awan said that rail is cheapest and safest mode of travel but in the last many years it was ignored.

"We have noted that after PML-N government was formed and Saad Rafique took charge as minister many positive changes were made to attract passengers."

A family traveling to Lahore, said train is best means to make a journey with children and reduction of fare would help Pakistan Railways earn more money.
