German, Austrian power capacity to ease by 1.3pc

Published Updated

imageFRANKFURT: German and Austrian available power plant capacity is likely to ease by 1.3 percent in the seven days to July 5 led by nuclear, oil- and gas-fired plants, according to the EEX bourse website on Friday.

Capacity is seen at 61,171 megawatts (MW) on July 5 versus 61,946 MW recorded on June 28, it showed.

Nuclear availability is expected to fall to 9,220 MW compared with 10,468 MW on Friday.

That tallies with confirmation from RWE that its Gundremmingen C reactor is to go offline for around six weeks from Saturday.

If operators' current plans go ahead, there will also be small losses in gas-fired and oil-fired capacity by the end of next week.

Coal-fired available capacity is expected to rise by 602 MW and hydroelectric plants will supply 268 MW more capacity, operators' plans show.

Looking a month ahead, capacity is seen at 62,280 MW on July 26, up 0.5 percent from June 28.

The EEX lists live data from German and most Austrian generators, grid operators and small plants, as well as production forecasts.

It monitors installed capacity amounting to around 83,000 MW.
