BIRMINGHAM: Rain has reduced the Champions Trophy final between England and India at Edgbaston on Sunday to a 20 overs per side contest, weather permitting.
Play is now due to get underway at 4.20pm local time (1520GMT) with 20 overs per side the minimum required for a result to be declared. No reserve day for the final has been scheduled.
Anything less than 20 overs per side and the match will be a no result, with the teams sharing the trophy, in what is set to be the last edition of the tournament, as happened in 2002 when Sri Lanka and India were joint winners after a rain-marred final in Colombo.
Rain delayed Sunday's scheduled 10.30am start after England captain Alastair Cook won the toss and elected to field.
Tournament hosts England were bidding for their first major one-day international (ODI) title having previously lost three World Cup finals (1979, 1987 and 1992) and gone down at home to the West Indies in the 2004 Champions Trophy final at The Oval.
