ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Saturday performed the soft opening of the Supreme Court Museum on the second day of the National Judicial Conference in a simple but dignified ceremony.
The Supreme Court of Pakistan has decided to establish an archival Museum to preserve and project the judicial history of the country and the evolution of the apex Court.
This Museum will enhance greater public understanding and appreciation of the legal and judicial institution of the country.
It will collect the rich history of Pakistan Judiciary and Law, share it with a diverse audience through a variety of programmes, and preserve it for future generations.
Initially, the Museum houses a car which was in the use of Justice A. R. Cornelius, former Chief Justice of Pakistan donated by Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja; personal belongings of former Chief Justice Yaqoob Ali donated by his son Justice Yawar Ali, Judge Lahore High Court and religious books on Christianity donated by Pakistan Bible Society, Lahore.
The ceremony was attended by the Judges of Supreme Court, Chief Justice of Federal Shariat Court, Chief Justices and Judges of all the High Courts of Pakistan, senior and renowned lawyers and delegates of India.
Talking to the participants, the Chief Justice of Pakistan informed that Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani had floated the idea of setting up of a Museum and now he along with Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk were overseeing the execution of the project.
Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk also briefed the participants about the concept of the Museum.
The legal fraternity and public have also been requested to extend their full cooperation and wholehearted support by providing any personal belongings for display. The donors will be given due credit.
