raja pervez 400 2ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Thursday appreciated the efforts of the Ministries of Petroleum, Water and Power on reduction in shortfall from 8,000 MW to around 4,000 MW.

Chairing the meeting of Energy Committee here, the Prime Minister directed the ministries that gradual surge of power generation must continue.

He said challenges posed by the seasonal changes must be addressed well in advance and power supply be ensured on sustainable basis.

The Prime Minister said finding a solution to the electricity shortage was his top priority.

He expressed confidence that the new team would undertake this responsibility with commitment and would surely succeed.

The Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Petroleum to ensure uninterrupted supply of fuel to the power sector.

The Advisor on Petroleum, Dr. Asim Hussain briefed the Prime Minister about the arrangements made in this regard including covering the risk of any unforeseen eventuality to the possible extent.

The Advisor said additional gas would be available to the state-owned power plants from tomorrow.

The Prime Minister directed to ensure the supply of additional 125 MMCFD gas from the Kunnar Bisakhi field by tapping its full capacity which would collectively add 800 MW electricity in the national grid.

The Advisor on Petroleum said the electrici supply to the domestic consumers was on priority in the new Gas Policy-2012 which amply manifested the commitment of the government to address  the issue on urgent basis.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Water and Power, Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar, Minister for Law, Dr. Farooq H Naek and the secretaries of relevant ministries.
