Pakistan pace spearhead Mohammad Amir seeking British citizenship and his decision to retire from Test cricket caused a storm in the cricketing circuit, with fans and pundits expressing their disappointment over the speedster's decision to retire at an early age of 27.

The cricketer's wife took to her social media and gave an explanation about Amir's retirement and dismissed rumours about him wanting to play for England. “Even though we don’t need to explain our decision to anyone but for the people who care and support us, my husband Mohammad Amir doesn't need to play for England or any other country he is a proud Pakistani and loves playing and representing his country Pakistan,” wrote his wife Narjis Khatun.

Reports were circulating regarding Amir applying for British citizenship. “Not just him, even if our child Minsa ever wants to play cricket she will represent Pakistan like her father as it's his wish,” Narjis added.

She said that Amir has retired from Test cricket ‘only’, adding that the decision was taken as Amir wanted to continue to represent his country in limited overs cricket. “He has done that so he could give more to One Day and T20 and make his country proud like always,” she said.

Just days ago, Pakistan’s fast bowling spearhead Amir announced retirement from Test cricket with immediate effect. The fast bowler would, however, be available for his side in the limited overs cricket.
