Tessa Thompson to play Marvel’s first LGBTQ superhero in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’

Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie took ‘King of Asgard’ title from Chris Hemsworth's Thor in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and now the character will be seen as first ever LGBTQ superhero in the upcoming sequel ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’.

Thompson will reprise her role as the demi-goddess known as Valkyrie, joining her will be original ‘Thor’ Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman as ‘Lady Thor’.

“First of all, as new King [of Asgard], she needs to find her queen, so that will be her first order of business. She has some ideas. Keep you posted,” Thompson said during San Diego Comic-Con. Marvel president Kevin Feige later confirmed Thompson’s statement, making Valkyrie the first openly LGBTQ superhero in Marvel Cinematic Universe history.

Marvel fans already know that Valkyrie in the comics is bisexual.

Thompson has played Valkyrie since 2017’s ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, but little has been revealed about the character’s sexuality. The actress did convince director Taika Waititi to shoot a scene of a woman walking out of Valkyrie’s bedroom, though it didn’t make the final cut.
