Chief Justice of Pakistan Asif Saeed Khan Khosa expressing dismay over the arrest of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Irfan Siddiqui in a rent matter has said the incident is embarrassing for the institution. Talking to reporters after addressing the orientation session for judges of MCACs and MTMCs on 'Expeditious Justice System' the CJP said that he met that day (Monday) with the Inspector General of Police, Islamabad, in the SC and told him that the incident has caused embarrassment for the institution (judiciary).
The IGP, earlier in the day, arrived Supreme Court to attend a meeting regarding finalising security arrangement for SAARC Law Conference, which will be held in September. Addressing the Additional Sessions and Civil Judges of Model Courts, Justice Khosa said the passion for work will produce results. He urged them to work selflessly in providing justice to the people. He said hearing cases and deciding them is different. The judges not only have to hear the cases, but they also need to decide them expeditiously.
The Chief Justice informed that at Supreme Court Principal Seat, Islamabad, there are now only 41 criminal appeals pending, while in Lahore Registry 93, Peshawar Registry five, and in Quetta and Karachi there is zero pendency of criminal appeals. He said passion is required for deciding cases, adding though judges' salary is not high, they should get satisfaction in deciding the cases, as Allah Almighty would give rewards. Justice Khosa said that the judges should decide the cases without any fear.
Recalling the hardships he faced during his career, the Chief Justice said: "During 21 years of service in High Court and the Supreme Court I faced threats and difficulties in deciding the religious, political and sensitive legal issues, but I remained steadfast in delivering justice." "If you would do justice then you will face no danger as Allah will protect you."
He told that in 90 days, 10,600 cases of murder and narcotics were decided by the Model Courts of Sessions, while Civil Model Courts decided 6000 cases in 14 days. He said the SP investigation has been directed to produce the witnesses in state cases, while the health secretaries are directed to produce the doctors who have conducted the post-mortem, but now have shifted to some other district.
He said all over the country the pendency in the courts from Supreme Court to the lower courts has been reduced from 1.9 million cases to 1.7 million since he has become Chief Justice of Pakistan.
