Pakistan Peoples Party (Punjab) remained in a fix over the fate of nomination papers throughout Saturday amidst a decision on the part of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for referring the matter to the Supreme Court for guidance.
Party sources said the process of interviews of candidates interested to contest elections on its ticket has been withheld. "We were expecting resolution of the matter at the level of ECP," said one party leader, adding that referring the matter to the apex court would result into further delay in resolution of the issue.
He further pointed out that the party leadership was pondering over the exercising the option of legal options for early resolution of the matter. It may be noted that PPP has been a strong supporter of timely elections in the country.
