Officials at Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) are still enjoying pleasure drives of confiscated luxury vehicles; despite the Apex Court orders to surrender the same on immediate basis.
According to details, the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) in a hearing last month expressed its displeasure and serious concerns on the use of jeeps and other luxury vehicles by the officers of FBR (PCS/IRS), which are either confiscated or tampered and are beyond the entitlement of the respective officers. The Apex court has ordered to cease this exercise forthwith.
Keeping the said directives in view, the FBR has therefore directed its field formation to get all such jeeps including Land Cruisers, Prados, Pajeeros, SUVs, etc except double cabs exclusively used for operational purposes surrendered immediately to the FBR/respective customs warehouses.
Furthermore, the board also ordered all supervisory officers of the respective field formations (PSC/IRS) to ensure immediate compliance of these directions and any violation in this regard would be considered serious and entail disciplinary action.
However, the officers of the FBR especially customs and intelligence departments (PCS/IRS) appear reluctant to surrender luxury vehicles to the FBR/respective customs warehouses, despite Supreme Court order.
Meanwhile, sources said that the FBR in its letter fixed the date of April 30, 2018 to furnish the certificate in this regard to the board.
However, after the lapse of over 20 days, these vehicles have neither been surrendered by the FBR officers nor any action is taken against them, who are still using these vehicles and are beyond its entitlement.
