THE RUPEE: minor variations

Marginal fluctuations were seen in the value of the rupee in terms of dollar in the process of trading, dealers said on the money market on Thursday. The rupee shed three paisas in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 110.51 at Rs 110.53 respectively, they said.
INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: In the fourth Asian trade, the dollar was on the defensive on Thursday, hampered by a recent dip in US 10-year bond yields, while commodity-linked currencies were bolstered by this week's rally in metals and oil prices.
The dollar's index against a basket of six major currencies slipped to 92.842 at one point, its lowest level since Dec 1.
The index has dropped 9.2 percent this year, putting it on track for its biggest annual slide since 2003.
The euro scaled a 3-1/2 week high of $1.1920. The single currency has gained 13.3 percent so far this year, well on the way for its best annual performance since 2003.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee 64.18, the greenback was available at 4.075 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was at 6.545 versus the Chinese yuan.
Inter bank buy/sell rates for the taka against the dollar on Thursday: 82.700-82.70 (Previous 82.70-82.70).
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee maintained overnight levels against the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 110.60 and Rs 110.90 respectively, they said.
Similarly, the rupee also did not move any side in relation to the euro for buying and selling at Rs 130.25 and Rs 132.25 respectively, they added.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee moved both ways in terms of the American dollar in the local currency market on Thursday.
According to currency dealers, the demand and supply situation of the US dollar continued fluctuating amidst divergent trend in the currency market throughout the trading session. Consequently, it was ended at Rs 110.50 and Rs 110.90 for buying and selling, respectively, as compared to the overnight closing trend of Rs 110.30 and Rs 111.00 respectively, they added.
Furthermore, the local currency recovered its earlier losses versus the pound sterling. The pounds' buying and selling rates slid from Wednesday's closing of Rs 146.40 and Rs 147.20 to Rs 140.30 and Rs 145.00 respectively, they said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The value of rupee against the dollar remained unchanged at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Thursday.
The dollar opened at Rs 110.30 (buying) and Rs 110.50 (selling) against same last rate. It closed at Rs 110.30 (buying) and Rs 110.50 (selling).
