The Lahore High Court on Friday sought replies from the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) and federal government by December 18 in a petition seeking action against ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif and other PML-N leaders for their anti-judiciary statements.
Earlier, Azhar Siddique advocate argued on behalf of the petitioner that the Pemra failed to implement its rules and code of conduct against airing of hate speeches, defamation and contempt. He said that Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and Law Minister Sanaullah had been committing contempt by uttering objectionable remarks against judiciary and the Pemra let the news channels to air those contemptuous statements without any restriction. He asked the court to restrain Pemra Chairman Absar Alam from functioning as he completely failed to discharge his duties.
