ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Railways Thursday informed the National Assembly that installation of tracking system is in final stage for strict monitoring of trains movement and fuel expenditure.

In a written reply in the National Assembly Ministry of Railways said Pakistan Railways (PR) has overcome its losses due to better financial discipline, strict monitoring system, austerity measures.

All out efforts are being made to explore new avenues of business to maximize its revenue. The PR has earned 1367.038 million more then previous years upto October 20.

Total number of 10 passenger trains will be introduced during 100 days. At present, at an average 9 to10 freight trains are being operated from Port as compared to one train in day in the year 2013.

The PR entered into an agreement with Pakistan Freight Transportation Co for transportation of 12,000 MTs of Coal per day. Five coal trains are supply coal to Fired Power Plant, Sahiwal daily.

The PR entered also into agreement with Pakistan State Oil for transportation of 200,000 million tons of petroleum products per annum from Karachi to up-country destinations.

Under Public Private Partnership (PPP), the PR has outsourced commercial management of three trains including Hazara Express, Fareed Express and Khushal Khan Khattak Express.

Online e-ticketing has been introduced to facilitate travelling passengers at their door steps.
