Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday took serious notice of harassment of Pashtun people in different parts of Punjab under the pretext of operation Radd-ul-Fassad, especially by Punjab police. Different pamphlets were distributed by the traders in parts of Punjab, urging the authorities to take action against Pashtun who are doing small business across the province. This earned the ire of the PTI as the party rules the Pashtun-dominated Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The Pashtun lawmakers have long been raising voice for singling out the Pashtun community, as majority of the Pashtuns are contributing to the economy of the country through small businesses all over the country including Punjab. PTI MNA from Swat Murad Saeed, in a strongly worded letter to Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan, warned to stop harassing the Pashtun doing business in Punjab province, or else the party would be forced to resist.
"We will not stop here but will also resist if this remains the attitude of the government. Do go for operation but you've no right to single out or harass the peaceful Pashtun who are doing businesses in Punjab," he warned. He made it clear to the interior minister that PTI will not tolerate PML-N government's discriminatory measures towards the people of Pakistan, especially Pashtun, adding there should be across the board operation instead of harassing a particular community.
Saeed said that the government miserably failed to implement National Action Plan (NAP) and in order to hide its failure, it is harassing the Pashtun who have nothing to do with what is going on in Punjab. "This ethnic cleansing must come to an end or we will see how things go on, as Pashtun are the people who have rendered sacrifices more than any other community in this country in the ongoing war against terrorism," he said.
He stated that PML-N's actions in Punjab will breed malignant trends like hostility, hatred and intolerance and further destabilise the country. "The heedlessness /detachment of Interior Ministry will empower anti-Pakistan agenda to make chaos and division across the country," he maintained. The PTI MNA said that the government seems least interested in eliminating the menace of terrorism, adding there is a need to cleanse the elements within the provincial government of Punjab who are sponsoring the militant outfits in the province.
