Blasphemous words, sketches and videos: PTA granted three-day to block pages on social media
Islamabad High Court on Monday granted three days to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to block pages on social media containing blasphemous words, sketches and videos against Allah Almighty, Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), wives (Azwaj-e-Mutahirat) and companions of the Holy Prophet, and the Holy Quran. A single-member bench of the High Court comprising Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui passed the order in response to a writ petition filed by a resident of Islamabad Salman Shahid seeking ban on the blasphemous sites on social media in the country.
Tariq Asad, counsel for the petitioner made secretaries of Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Information Technology, director general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and chairman PTA as respondents.
