Rainfall in Vietnam's Central Highlands has disrupted the country's coffee supply further, causing a rally in domestic prices and affecting the quality of cherries in the world's top robusta producer, traders said on Tuesday. Prolonged rain can worsen the bean quality as it prevents outdoor drying as well as harvesting. While many black beans have already been spotted in Central Highlands, the harvest also got delayed, which are considered a defect in exports.
If the rains continue for a few more days, it will seriously affect the bean's quality, said Phan Hung Anh, deputy director of Daklak-based Anh Minh Co Robusta prices stood at 43,000 dong-43,800 dong ($1.90-$1.93) per kg on Tuesday in Daklak, up from 43,000-43,200 dong a week ago, as buyers were afraid of a considerable reduce in supply, independent analyst Nguyen Quang Binh told Reuters.
