Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Wednesday decided to form a parliamentary board for selection and scrutiny of candidates all over the country for the next general elections. Moreover, the PTI has decided to utilise the time till next hearing in Panamagate case for mass mobilisation drive, as the Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing till January next year, which may take time as the incumbent chief justice who is heading the larger bench is set to retire by the end of this month.
Talking to journalists after a meeting of senior party leaders held in the chair of Chairman PTI Imran Khan, PTI Vice-Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that he and Jehangir Khan Tareen will jointly head the committee as 2017 is the year for fresh elections in the country.
"We see elections much before 2018, and most probably 2017 will be election year as people want change and genuine democracy in the country," he added. He said the committee will decide future course of action as it has been tasked to mobilise masses in every nook and corner of the country, for which people belonging to all walks of life will be contacted. He said the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is fast losing its credibility, especially after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif lied on the floor of the Parliament.
"Sharif blatantly lied on the floor of the House, and he deliberately misled the parliamentarians about his assets and money trail on purchase of Mayfair flats in London...people have no more trust in him [Sharif]," he added. He said the government has been badly exposed as their statement before the Parliament was completely opposite to what the Prime Minister's lawyer said before the apex court.
"Telling lie after lie...there are contradictions in the statements of Nawaz Sharif and his children and there could no other big joke with the nation than this, and above all they wanted to die Panamagate scandal down but the PTI dragged them to the court," he added.
Qureshi said that irrespective of what the court decides in Panama Leaks case, but one thing has been established that Sharifs had nothing in their defence to hide their 'theft', adding the nation wants a genuine democracy and a true change, which can only be possible when the masses get rid of the rulers.
